SHOOBIZ is an iconic footwear brand within Australia and debuted in the early 70′s. The brand created by my father in-law, the late Don Figgins, revolutionised fashion footwear in Australia, with its must-have, good quality and affordable approach. The ShooBiz retail chain expanded over Australia and became a shopping mecca for the latest, on-trend shoes. Many of us grew up with ShooBiz!! I remember coveting my first pair of pointed toe, red ankle boots at ShooBiz Swantson Street in the 80′s. I clearly remember my state of euphoria – the loud pulsating music, the hip staff and the SHOES. Wall to wall shoes; high stilettos, platforms, more platforms, boots, ankle booties – a candy store of goodies! The experience changed my life. Literally!

Those red ShooBiz boots took me to my first retail job in the chain of stores and onto a buying career. The ShooBiz brand surged through the 80′s, 90′s and into the 2000′s. Constantly evolving and showcasing the best and latest fashion footwear. It was a mecca for on-trend girls who wanted coveted new shoes.

During the tragic collapse of my husband’s family business, I acquired the SHOOBIZ brand name myself. A sentimental intention more than anything! A year later I found myself in our factory in China designing shoes again. What I do best!! I love shoes! I think shoes, I sleep shoes, I dream shoes. My ShooBiz red boots have  kind of taken me on a new shoe adventure!

I have been shoe-obsessed for the greater part of my life! From stick figures with elaborately illustrated heels as a child, to my first part-time job in a shoe boutique, to a Cinderella tale of marrying into a 'shoe' family! I was a destined cobbler. The last 20 years have been dedicated to footwear design. I blend my knowledge of colour, material and form to create silhouettes that evoke glamour and elegance. I draw every sketch, select materials and finalise each construction detail that produces all shoes. I do this with passion - appealing to conservative, eclectic and adventurous personalities and tastes. My philosophy “give a girl the right pair of shoes, and she can conquer the world!” Google Plus

I loved reading this as i’d always wondered what happened to the stores. I too have fantastic memories of shoe shopping at Shoobiz and more so at the Swanson St store. So many shoes on different levels, it was like heaven! My local store was across the way from the retail store I worked at and when new stock came in the girls would come over to my store and show me the shoes they knew I’d like. Sure enough I’d usually buy them too! (This was in the early 90′s) I remember Scooter stores popping up when Shoobiz disappeared from the shopping centres. Were they are part of the business?

Hey MsShoeGal! Sounds like we have ‘ShooBiz’ in common. That Swanston part of the city was thriving in the early 90′s. The Emporio was a mecca! Remember the Suchhi level too? The shoes were way out! Scooter was part of the family chain of stores, that is sadly no longer.
Love the memories a pair shoes can evoke!! Warm Reagrds,
